The JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute's Vocational Rehabilitation Program offers a variety of services that will enable you to determine your vocational assets and abilities; assess your independent living skills; provide you with the opportunity for career exploration and job sampling; provide you with short-term paid work experience; provide individual and group vocational counseling; provide individual and group independent living skills experiences and development; provide job-seeking skills, resume preparation and a job hunt club.
This program is available to high school students ages 15 to 21 (or when
eligible for working papers) and adults of all ages. You may have worked in the past or you may be entering the world of work for the first time.
The Vocational Rehabilitation Program also offers a comprehensive clerical training program, known as the "The Professional Office Skills Training Program." This program offers training in Microsoft 2000, a business English course, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, the use and operation of all office machinery and more. Open enrollment is offered year round for this self-paced training that can last up to 100 days. If you are able to accelerate your learning, you may progress at your own pace. Classes are small allowing the instructors to address your personal needs and provide additional assistance when needed.
Both individual and group vocational counseling is provided to assist you in preparing for employment. Topics covered may include resume preparation, interviewing techniques, job development and retention. Classes are held four days a week, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Program flexibility is an attribute that may meet your individual needs.
