Attention Deficit Disorder
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD) Programs at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI)
Children with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) display no common set of behavioral symptoms. Some children may have trouble learning; some may experience social difficulties; some may exhibit behavioral problems; and some may experience a combination of all three.
At JRI's Pediatric Rehabilitation Department in Edison, New Jersey, we recognize the uniqueness of every child. Our diagnostic and treatment teams tailor our programs to suit each child's individual profile.
ADD/ADHD pediatric diagnostic evaluations may be performed by a:
- Pediatric neurologist
- Psychologist
- Occupational therapist
- Social worker
- Speech/language pathologist
- Learning disability specialist
- Individual Therapy
Children and their families are provided with intensive one-on-one treatment.
- Individual Occupational Therapy helps children experiencing fine motor difficulties with handwriting, coordination, sensory integration, organization and impulse control
- Psychotherapy and Counseling help children and their parents cope with the daily challenges of ADHD, including the management of behavioral problems and self-esteem issues
- Speech and Language Therapy assists children with ADHD who are having trouble processing and using language
Group Programs
At JRI's Pediatric Rehabilitation Department, children with ADD/ADHD are given the opportunity to develop new skills and learn new behaviors -- and then practice them while they interact with peers in real-life settings.
- Sensory Quest helps children to improve their impulse control, attention span and organizational skills in play and learning situations
- Social Skills helps children who are having trouble with peer relationships develop friendship-making skills during play and discussion activities
