Day Rehabilitation Hospital

Day Rehabilitation offers intensive rehabilitation services in a nurturing environment without the need for an overnight hospital stay. This allows patients to benefit from an intensive structured daytime therapy program while enjoying the comfort of home and family support during the evening.

In addition, Day Rehabilitation fills an important need in the continuum of health care by providing quality rehabilitation at one-third to one-half the cost of an inpatient stay.

Referral Process

The intake coordinator, accessible by calling (732) 548-7610, receives calls from parents and or insurance company case managers to determine the child and family needs. Scheduling occurs following medical clearance, receipt of prescriptions and prior relevant medical records and insurance authorization.

Program Description

For an intensive four to six week period, typically post-operatively, the child's Day Rehabilitation program is individually designed based on the child's specific and unique rehabilitation needs. The rehabilitation team and family design a program to promote independent functioning in the home, school and community environment.

The interdisciplinary Day Rehabilitation team is constituted according to each child's and family's needs and may include a physician, physical, occupational and/or speech therapists, nurse, psychologist and/or social worker and others as appropriate. Available services include individual and group therapy; patient/family education; snacks/lunch; activities of daily living; pool therapy; recreation; educational tutoring; and orthotics.

A typical day rehabilitation program includes three hours of therapy, one hour of recreation, one hour of tutoring, nursing and counseling as appropriate, family education, meals, and snacks.
