Adult Outpatient Programs and Services
Orthopedic Therapy

The Orthopedic Therapy program at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is designed to meet the needs of patients who have limitations or dysfunction of muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. Both physical therapists and occupational therapists are involved in this program and are responsible for evaluating and treating patients with musculo-skeletal problems.

Patients appropriate for these services may include patients with the following conditions:
  • Spinal dysfunction involving either the neck or back
  • Fractures involving either the extremities or spine
  • Muscle, ligament or tendon sprains or strains
  • Arthritis or other joint pain
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Cumulative trauma and overuse injuries

Every patient who is treated through this program receives a comprehensive evaluation by a licensed physical therapist or occupational therapist. Upon completion of the evaluation, a treatment program is tailored to the particular diagnosis and the individual patient's needs. Each therapy program is designed with the patient's goals in mind and is created in order to maximize the functional outcome of the affected hand or extremity.

In order to enter this program, patients must have a referral from a medical doctor indicating the need for hand or upper extremity therapy.
