Adult Inpatient Programs and Services
Orthopedic Rehabilitation

The JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute Orthopedic Program is designed for patients who have had a hip fracture, hip replacement or total knee replacement. The focus of the program is to maximize function, assure a safe and accessible home environment and plan for appropriate services after discharge.

During a patient's stay, daily therapy schedules will consist of individual and group therapies, as well as weekend treatment. Based upon a patient's physician's recommendations, goals will be set and a treatment program will be designed to assess mobility, range of motion, self care and joint protection needs. Family members will be asked to complete a home accessibility checklist. After it is completed, a patient's therapists will make recommendations (including equipment to use at home).

Depending on progress, a patient's length of stay should be approximately seven days. The team will meet weekly to discuss each patient's goals, progress and discharge needs. Family members are encouraged to take an active part in training and discharge planning. At the time of discharge, arrangements will be made for continued treatment as an outpatient or for home care.
