Incontinence Program

At the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute, our staff has developed an incontinence program that focuses on improving lives. And, along with this help, we offer understanding. Our physical therapists are sensitive, caring professionals who recognize the emotional toll and life-changing limitations incontinence forces upon women. Sessions with each patient are conducted in a private environment, where women learn to regain muscular control and restore their dignity and active lifestyles.

Physical therapy is effective in treating two types of urinary incontinence:

Stress incontinence - When a deep laugh, coughing, lifting a grocery bag or other physical strain or stress causes leakage

Urge Incontinence - When the urge to urinate can't be deterred and leakage occurs.

Our program takes a personal, three-fold approach that involves an evaluation, education and treatment. If you suffer from stress or urge incontinence, or a combination of both, our program is designed especially to help you. To arrange for treatment, physicians should refer patients to us for "neuromuscular reeducation of the pelvic floor muscle" or call for more information between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A fecal incontinence program is also available at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. Many of the same techniques are used to identify and help patients therapeutically resolve fecal incontinence problems.

For information about either program, call (732) 321-7790 or (609) 409-1170.
