Our group programs provide an
alternative or an addition to individual therapy. The goal of the
group programs is to provide opportunities to learn, practice and
reinforce skills needed for successful coping with everyday life
experiences at home, in school and within the community.
According to its design, each group targets either a specific
social, psychological or developmental skill or a combination of
skills that will guide children to successfully meet the
challenges they face in daily life.
Group programs are held throughout the year and include the
following:
 |
- The Social Skills
program
develops friendship-making skills related to communication and
program-solving issues. Children experiencing difficulties
with peer relationships benefit from structured play and
discussion activities.
- Sensory Quest is a program for
children who are distractible, with a limited attention span,
or children who have difficulty with organization or impulse
control. The goal of the program is to help children better
understand how to regulate their own behavior within play and
learning situations.
|
- Therapeutic Exercise groups are
movement exploration groups where children learn creative
expression and enhance gross motor development through various
activities. These groups enhance body awareness, balance,
coordination, strength and endurance in a fun and energetic
environment.
- Life
Skills: A group for
pre-teens and teens that provides clients with therapeutic
needs and families an opportunity to develop and implement age
appropriate community activities and life skills. Physical and
occupational therapists provide strategies and practice during
weekly center-based sessions and monthly community outings to
promote safety and increased independence within the home and
community.
