Day Rehabilitation Program

Day Rehabilitation is an outpatient program designed for patients who are medically stable enough to live at home, but require several rehabilitation therapies. These therapies may be any combination of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or rehabilitation psychology. The Day Rehabilitation Program at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute serves many types of patient needs, including the following:
- As progression from a stay in an inpatient rehabilitation program
- As a substitute for inpatient rehabilitation, when the patient is medically stable enough to live at home
- As a program for patients with chronic illness, who have been losing the ability to function independently
Each patient receives a personalized program based upon an intake evaluation. Services provided may include:
- Rehabilitation Medicine
- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Social Work
- Psychology
- Speech Therapy
Patients attend the Day Rehabilitation Program three to five days per week between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Therapy services are coordinated to provide maximum benefit and eliminate duplication of services.
The average number of treatment days spent in the program is about 17.
The general breakdown of Day Rehabilitation patients by diagnosis is as follows:

All patients are evaluated to determine what activities they require help with at both the start and completion of the program and to help establish appropriate goals. All patients are given a comprehensive home program on discharge so that improvements made in the program can be carried over to home. Patients are referred for follow-up medical and therapy services as needed. About 25 percent of patients continue to receive outpatient services after program discharge. These services may include follow-up visits with the program physician or continued sessions of a particular therapy on an outpatient basis.
The Day Rehabilitation Program at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute has received the highest commendations from our patients over the years. Our staff welcomes questions about this innovative and valuable service. For information about the Day Rehabilitation Program, call (732) 321-7707.
