Incontinence
Specialized Rehabilitation Services for Women
Surgery, menopause or other life changes can limit a woman's ability to be active and independent. JRI's Health Plus programs in central New Jersey offer evaluation and treatment that help women of all ages regain control of their lives.
Our specially trained female physical and occupational therapists provide personal attention in a supportive, private environment that is conveniently located in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. After a comprehensive evaluation, a treatment plan is tailored to meet the special needs of each individual.
Some of the more common problems that can be addressed through physical therapy and occupational therapy include:
- Urinary and fecal incontinence
- Pelvic pain
- Urinary and bowel urgency and frequency
- Constipation
- Painful sex
- Post-breast surgery pain and dysfunction
- Osteoporosis
- Prenatal and postpartum pain and dysfunction
Incontinence Program
At the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison, NJ, our staff has developed an incontinence program that focuses on improving lives. Along with this help, we also offer understanding. JRI's physical therapists are sensitive, caring professionals who recognize the emotional toll and life-changing limitations incontinence forces upon women. Sessions with each patient are conducted in a private environment, where women learn to regain muscular control and restore their dignity and active lifestyles.
Physical therapy is effective in treating two types of urinary incontinence:
- Stress incontinence, when a deep laugh, sneezing, lifting, exercise or other physical strain or stress causes leakage
- Urge incontinence, when the urge to urinate can't be deterred and leakage occurs
Our program takes a personal, three-fold approach that involves an evaluation, education and treatment. If you suffer from stress or urge urinary incontinence and/or fecal incontinence, our program is designed especially to help you.
