Breast Surgery
Specialized Rehabilitation Services for Women
Surgery, menopause or other life changes can limit a woman's ability to be active and independent. JRI's Health Plus programs in central New Jersey offer evaluation and treatment that help women of all ages regain control of their lives.
Our specially trained female physical and occupational therapists provide personal attention in a supportive, private environment that is conveniently located in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. After a comprehensive evaluation, a treatment plan is tailored to meet the special needs of each individual.
Some of the more common problems that can be addressed through physical therapy and occupational therapy include:
- Urinary and fecal incontinence
- Pelvic pain
- Urinary and bowel urgency and frequency
- Constipation
- Painful sex
- Post-breast surgery pain and dysfunction
- Osteoporosis
- Prenatal and postpartum pain and dysfunction
Post-Breast Surgery Therapy
After a mastectomy and breast reconstruction, women may experience post-surgical problems that limit their mobility and interfere with normal work, fitness and recreation activities. JRI's physical therapy program for post-breast surgery patients in New Jersey can safely and effectively help women to improve scar tissue mobility and shoulder flexibility, strengthen affected muscles, and improve posture and manage swelling (edema).
Our approach to restoring the compromised areas includes evaluation, education, treatment and a written home program. Each woman is assessed on an individual basis in the areas of muscle strength, range of motion and function.
To continue benefiting from exercise, therapists frequently recommend a fitness program that enhances strength and endurance. JRI's therapists may also suggest the reassuring environment of a breast cancer support group, where patients can share experiences and gain insight into the emotional and physical stresses that may accompany breast surgery.
