Physical Therapy

With extensive clinical experience, the staff of the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) delivers physical therapy care in a friendly, compassionate atmosphere at our three New Jersey outpatient rehab center locations: Edison, NJ; Metuchen, NJ; and Monroe, NJ.

Licensed physical therapists work one-on-one with patients to help them gain the highest level of functional independence within the limitations of their conditions. Physical therapists are trained to relieve pain and improve movement, strength and function.

JRI's Outpatient Rehabilitation Department provides a comprehensive range of therapeutic services to adolescents and adults. Through evaluation of physical impairments and functional limitations, our physical therapists develop individualized treatment programs to meet the needs of each patient. Therapists closely monitor each patient's exercises and prescribe home exercise programs to reinforce the treatment. Patients are also educated in techniques to prevent recurring injury and to maintain renewed mobility.

In addition, all outpatients have access to specialized services within our NJ hospital system, such as aquatic therapy, the Pain Management Program, specialized clinics, and the JFK Health & Fitness Center in Edison, NJ.

We provide skilled intervention for the treatment of many diagnoses, including:

Orthopedics Physical Therapy

JRI's orthopedic physical therapists diagnose, manage and treat disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system and provide rehabilitation of patients after orthopedic surgery. Through evaluation of physical impairments and functional limitations, a physical therapist at one of our NJ facilities will develop an individualized treatment program to meet the needs of each patient. Our therapists closely monitor each patient's exercises and prescribe home exercise programs to reinforce treatment. Patients are also educated in techniques to prevent recurring injury and to maintain renewed mobility.

The physical therapists at JRI are trained in the treatment of many orthopedic conditions, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Back/Neck injuries
  • Orthopedic spine injuries
  • Orthopedic joint injuries
  • Joint replacement rehabilitation
  • Back/Neck pain
  • Osteoporosis

To expedite recovery, treatment may include joint mobilizations, strength and flexibility training, education and various therapeutic physical therapy modalities, including exercise prescription (strength, motor control, stretching and endurance); manual therapy techniques like joint mobilization/manipulation; soft tissue massage; and various forms of so-called "electrophysical agents."

Patients in the NJ/NY area who have suffered injury or disease affecting the muscles, bones, ligaments or tendons of the body will benefit from examination and assessment by one of JRI's physical therapists specialized in orthopedics.
