About
Us
The Pediatric Rehabilitation Department of the JFK Johnson
Rehabilitation Institute is dedicated to improving the well-being of children and their families.
OUR
MISSION:
A Commitment to Children
 |
To facilitate the child's skills in all
developmental areas: movement, cognition, communication, social-emotional health,
psychosocial health and adaptive behavior.
To assist family members to adjust to the impact of living with a handicapped child
and to develop nurturing and caregiving skills. |
Nothing is more important to us than the health of the
children in our care. Our pediatric rehabilitation programs
bring together resources, specialists and technology to help each
child lead a healthy, fulfilling life.
OUR PHILOSOPHY:
Child & Family Centered

Every detail of the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) Pediatric Rehabilitation Department
has been designed with the best interests of the children we serve in mind. The facility itself, a
renovated school building, is open and child-friendly. We have fully equipped gyms for
physical and occupational therapy. Our bright cheerful rooms include observation booths so
parents can see and hear their children interacting and learning. We focus on teaching children
adaptive and coping skills so they have the personal tools they need to achieve success in
everyday life.
OUR HISTORY:
Who We Are

The JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) has been an integral part of JFK Medical Center since
1977. The Pediatric Rehabilitation Department, the largest outpatient facility of its kind in New
Jersey, serves thousands of children in the area. Nationally and internationally recognized for its
exemplary services, teaching and research, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Department at JRI has
been the recipient of numerous federal, foundation
and state-funded grants.
OUR APPROACH:
Interdisciplinary & Diverse

What makes us unique? Our team approach to treatment. A highly committed staff of more than 50
licensed and certified pediatric specialists provides comprehensive rehabilitation services especially
for children. Our team includes pediatric neurologist/developmental pediatrician, nurses,
physical therapists, speech/language pathologists, psychologists, social
workers, early childhood special educators and learning disabilities
consultants. Parents are also an integral part of the team and take part in
their child's rehabilitation every step of the way. We also have programs
that help family members participate in and understand the rehabilitation process.
Serving children from birth through early adulthood, we offer a wide range of solutions for orthopedic,
communication, neurological, developmental, behavioral and learning problems. To make services
available to more families, we offer programs in such community settings as schools,
nursery schools, day care centers and homes in the area.
No matter what the concern or developmental challenge, JRI's Pediatric
Rehabilitation Department commitment is the same. We're ready to provide medically advanced services to children
and their families to improve the quality of their lives and help them realize their fullest potential.
