Tinnitus Evaluation

Many, if not most, people experience noises or ringing especially in the ears. For the majority, this
tinnitus or tinn-eye-tus is not unduly troubling. For some, however, the noise may assume great
significance, interfering with sleep, relaxation and concentration. For these individuals, the
tinnitus becomes a source of annoyance and anxiety that something is medically wrong. In very rare
instances, tinnitus may indeed be associated with disease processes that demand medical attention.
However, in the vast majority of cases, the cause is unknown and the tinnitus sufferer may be told
simply to "live with it." Tinnitus is extremely commonplace, but the individual's ability to cope
with it varies greatly.
Certified, licensed audiologists at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute are trained in the Jostreboff
method of "Tinnitus Retraining Therapy," to help identify the nature of the individual's tinnitus, as
well as offer recommendations and assistive devices that may help relieve the sufferer's over-perception
of tinnitus. Hearing testing, counseling and even hearing aids and sound generators are part of this
program's offering for those suffering from the effects of this very common problem.
